Part 2 : Unknown device

So, I DID receive my new test clip to read ICs. It is quite a lovely little tool to work with and didn’t thought I’d appreciate it that much. so, YaY? Review post coming soon.

Back to the WiFi repeater, it didn’t fully solve my problem of reading the chip. I am now facing a new problematic. The flash chip doesn’t seem to be recognized! <insert super sad emoji someday>

A bit of a cable hell but that was to be expected.

I am able to properly connect the tool with the chip and I’ve also experimented with another Flash IC I had on hands but, the other IC is working just fine, while the one on the Wifi repeater is not recognized.

Gonna try with another IC?

The extra Flash is a Winbond W25Q80.V and this one is able to easily be read by the rPi so I know my setup is working fine. The top output is the one on the board and the bottom one is the Winbond.

Detection in console.

So now, the next step would be to desolder the IC and hope that I’m able to read it outside of the board environment. If that doesn’t work, might have to put that project on ice while I find the login information online. (Speaking of, if you guys know the user/password, PLEASE let me know either in comment or whatever.)

To be continued…
